Yes another suspension topic but read before u bash

Hey whats goin on people????
Here is the deal. I have a 97 2.0 with some 17" rims on it. I want it lowered but not too low for the following reasons.
1. I am a dj and I do carry a lot of records. approximately 400lbs in the trunk. I have to do this every weekend and it does make the back of the car look dropped about 4"s.
and 2. I am going to put a trailer hitch on the back so that I can tow my bike when needed. Now the trailor weight approx 350lbs and the bike is about 450lbs.
I am not gonna go with coilovers cuz I do not want to drive it that low and I dont like adjusting it too often especially when I am using it as a daily driver in a city where there are waaaaaaaaaaay too many gat dayum speed bumps.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

H&R Sports with Koni adjustables. Lowers about 1.5" and you can crank up the rear shocks when you have your load in there.

Judging by the what you use your car for, you should leave it stock. But stock height and 17s REALLY don't go together.
If you MUST lower it, do what A3Jetta said, get sport springs (H&R, Neuspeed) and some nice shocks (Koni Adjustables or Bilstein Sport shocks). IMO, with 17s, you need to go low (at least 2" before it starts to look acceptable). Anything less looks 4x4.

Setting your shocks on hard will have no effect on ride height. The only way to prevent the rear of the car from sagging from extra weight is to get harder springs.

Re: Yes another suspension topic but read before u bash (Agtronic)

I used to have a 2.0 GTI and had Neuspeed springs with Bilstein Sports. I haul about the same amount of Bass Gear in the back and never had a problem with scrubbing or bottoming out. Now I have H&R Coilovers and do the same thing and still havent had problems. You wont be able to lower the car too much in the back, but you will be able to get a decent drop and still haul everything with no problems. Just be careful, you may need to roll the rear fenders as well just to be safe.
Thanks

I don't think it was meant to say it would adjust the height. He suggested adjusting it all the way to hard to counteract the sag the car would be getting from having so much weight in the trunk. I agree with getting adjustable struts. Sport springs won't look that bad either.

I dont see a problem, im dropped 2", and when i go shopping at costco, i have 2 people in the back totalling 300LBS, plus another 50lbs of stuff in the trunk, plus my sub which is around 35 lbs, so i have close to 400lbs in the back, im tucked as hell, but it looks sweet, no rubbing, no problems...

I agree that adjusting the stiffness to hard on adjustable shocks will help prevent bottoming out, but it won't counteract the sagging you get when loading the car. It's a constant weight. Either way, Bilsteins or Konis, they're both so hard that with a good set of springs, you should have no problems hauling your gear around.

Any fully adjustable Coilover will be perfect. 4 people in the car and the ride height is the same as when theres no one in it.

I say get coils and set it up rake style, front super low, rear in the air... No so high that it is too high, but enough to accomodate your usage...

The key here is in the spring rates that you have in the back. You would get very little sag if you order a set of H&R Coilovers with 500 pound springs for the back.

Exactly, but 500 is a little exagerated. Sport springs should be enough to haul your stuff around. If you want a nice drop, get some race springs, or better yet, coilovers. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

i think what a3jetta meant was that the koni rear shocks have an adjustable rear perch so you could lift the rear, to give compensate for the extra weight
