Your ultimate (and/or most unlikely) snow car

Yes, I'm still all wound up on account of the 100+ inches of snow that we've gotten in the last 36hrs. So I'm wondering: What's your idea of the best way to conquer the white stuff?
Mine is my wife’s 1986 Subaru wagon. 4WD, tall skinny tires, nice wheelbase, and LOW RANGE!!! This thing rules. It has never been stuck, in 15 years of ownership! My 4000 Quattro paled in comparison. My Cherokee with 33” BFG mt’s and Air Lockers was ok, but not as trusty as the Subie.

Well let's see....
Out of the:
87 turbo subie
89 ford festiva
82 fwd subie
76 cj-7 (with 31's)
83 cj-8 (with 31's)
91 civic hatch (lowered)
92 isuzu ls spacecab 4wd (31's)
93 vr6 passat (50 series summer tires)
only 2 of those have ever been stuck....the turbo subie (only had high range which, with low pro wide pirelles didn't work very well) and the scrambler, but then again it was my fault (spun a corner at snowbasin and plowed head first into a snow bank up to my roof....
Everything else has plowed/pushed/growled through everything utah has thrown at me. I even took my sitting on the ground honda up sardine with 3-4 inches of fresh snow one year. I've never been in a snow related/weather related accident. But I have mastered the art of fwd e-brake slides on dry/wet/snowy/icey pavement...lol
Now onto the subject....I think a fun snow beater is the rwd chevette. We use to get so ripped and go out and reek havoc in one....but really, anything will work...well it has for me...(those fwd festiva's are devils in the snow, a friend with one use to go up small 1 dirt road canyons with his....and never get stuck)

All wheel drive DSM, of course. Plenty of go power, nice n heavy, heater that would cook a holiday turkey. What else could you want?

I'm going to find a 4Kq, or 5ktq after I sell my car. I look forward to having quattro!

Re: Your ultimate (VWVancouver)

Yeah, the older Quattros are a good find for these parts. My '86 4000 was a blast! My friends were always amazed by the left-foot-braking-under-throttle-around snowy corners-with-no-slippage maneuver. The locking center and rear differentials were invaluable as well.
With the 205 Pirrellis and low clearance, it did tend to get stuck in the deeper stuff.
Re: Your ultimate (and/or most unlikely) snow car (sleddog)

this Sherman tank with flame thrower should do it. though if you use the flame thrower you may not need the tank as you would then be on cement. Oh well, i will take 1 please

I think the tall skinny tires helped a lot.
Re: Your ultimate (Mhyrr)

Good to see that Lambo didn't spare any expense on the wheels for that thing...hahahahaha
Re: Your ultimate (VR6Stress)

lmao. go tank!
haha. i've had a blast driving my 18t around in all the snow we've got in utah. to bad it's a really poor donught machine =(
once you start building any boost at all you can say goodbye to traction, but it's really fun sliding around =D
maybe i should put on a 28mm rear sway bar and pull my stock front sway and see how that does

If I could afford to run a second car strictly for winter driving, I would get a Subaru Loyale and get some nice studded tires for it. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Would also make a good camping/hauling vehicle. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
