Watch: How Does a $4,000 Touareg Fare Against a Grand Cherokee?

Pretty well, is the short answer.

It’s no secret that the original Touareg is one of the more over-engineered SUVs to roll into dealerships. So much so that old models are still one of the best off-roading deals you can get. Even against a mighty Grand Cherokee with mods, the aging Touareg looks pretty good.

Mind you, there are a few problems that Touareg fans face, according to this video from TFL Car. The biggest is the lack of aftermarket support. The specific advantage that affords the Jeep here is the underbody protection which protects its vital underparts from the jagged rocks on this off-road trail.

Regardless, the second-hand Touareg continues to impress with its abilities on and off the road.
