Watch: The Most Common Wheel/Suspension Setups for the Mk4 GTI

Making choices about what to do next to your car can be stressful. Even picking the right set of wheels can open you up to so many different possibilities that choice paralysis sets in.

Fortunately, Fitment Industries is here to run down the wheel, tire, and suspension setups on a selection of the Mk4 GTIs in its galleries.

The good news is that some patterns emerge. A 5×100 bolt pattern is what you need to start and from there the vast majority of cars wear 18×8.5 wheels, usually with an offset around +35. It’s not what everyone does, but it’s a solid setup that looks good.

The video does point out though that you don’t have to be so pigeonholed. Wheel diameters on tend to be in the 16-18-inch range, width tends to stick between 6.5- and 9.5-inches, and the offset tends to be between +20 and +40.

While it may not answer your specific questions about the wheels on your Mk4, it’s a great starting point for anyone who’s wading into the wide world of wheels and feels a little overwhelmed.
