Ok...I've been on here looking and have tried a few remedies but I'm at a loss so here's my own post. My car has 329k miles on it. It has had a little notchiness going from 2-3 gear since it was new...not constantly, just once in a while but I have lived with it. I've had to top off the manual trans oil a few times over the past 22 years and was using Redline MT90 for that (didn't shift as smoothly though). Well I figured I might as well change the whole thing out and put in new after all these years and miles and start fresh. I found some Febi/Bilstein oil on FCP Euro and used it. He didn't like it...quite notchy going from 2-3 and 3-4. I ran that for several weeks and kept looking on here and TDI Club and found Pennzoil synchromesh was giving good results to some folks so I changed it out to that.....still very notchy and annoying. So I was looking at using genuine VW oil and was on the fence as to G50 or G70 and read that G70 is the latest and greatest so I got some of that for a good price and after several weeks I changed out the synchromesh for the G70. I thought at first he was going to be happy with that but mostly I notice after it's been sitting for a few days undriven it will be REALLY notchy-grindy. Every three weeks I have an eight day stretch off from work so he just sits and I drive my truck or my Acura. When I go back to work it's really bad for at least 25 miles (I commute 50 miles each way). Then it will be mostly fine during the work stretches. What's next? Should I go back to original g50 or Redline MT90 or 100 or ??? Or is there an additive I can put in to help smooth it out? No other strange noises or behavior,
