Re: Any one installed Euro OEM DELTA 6 CD player in the 32.....plug n play (SilverBulletR32)

Finally, someone that installed the unit and it worked. I almost lost faith in the forum......I just it was just a odd tread, since everyone is going aftermarket or navi.

I just happened to do a search today on the Delta radio to print out some notes to get ready for putting the radio in my GTI.

I'll post up when I have it in my GTI and report the results along with any VagCom-ing that I had to do to get it to work. I've also seen one other thread somewhere with pics of one working in a MKIV GTI... but I can't find it now though!

Those quotes I got are from posts from 3 years ago.

P.S. Those prices in one of the above posts looks like new prices for a Delta 6. These units regularly appear on German Ebay (sometimes UK ebay too) used in very good condition for a few hundred Euro's and less. Thing is trying to find a seller who is willing to sell/ship to USA takes some time.

Re: Any one installed Euro OEM DELTA 6 CD player in the 32.....plug n play (RichB)

Anyone using this with an additional trunk CD changer or iPod interface?
Can this unit work with an additional CD changer in the trunk, for a total of 12 CDs? Or more importantly (and the reason why I ask the question), can it work with an iPod interface that's attached to the trunk CD changer harness?
I'd love to have RDS, etc. but if it means giving up my iPod, fugedaboudid....
Here would be a great product: an iPod FM interface that transmits the radio station as "iPod", so the head unit can automatically stick to that "station", that monitors the spectrum and automatically switches to a new frequency if there's a collision, and that sends the track info as part of the RDS stream, so you know what you're playing... ;-)

Will have an answer for you tomorrow on the CD changer end of this....
After some delay (work, working on getting other stuff/mods done to the car, and problems with getting the OEM double din monsoon unit out), I finally got the Delta 6 head unit in the car (03 GTI) today. I recoded the unit with vagcom (coding: 0001033 = 2 door GTI with Monsoon and CD changer) and it is working fine. I didn't have time to put some discs in the changer today, but the head unit recognized the changer was there and that I had no magazine in it (I'm sure it will work fine though when I throw a mag with some CD's in it tomorrow).
Also, I've met a local dubber who has the adapter with I-pod connected (can't recall the brand) in the truck of his Jetta in place of the CD changer. The Ipod is operated via the head unit (double DIN monsoon unit) in a basic (group, track) manner. I do not see any reason why that type of I/F would not work with the Dleta 6.
EDIT: Put a magazine in the changer this AM... all works fine. I am also doing more research on the radio coding.... I don't think the coding for the premium VI (Monsoon) radio fully applies to the Delta 6... need to find someone in Europe with that has a Euro equiv of a Bentley that has the radio coding for the european radio's. It does appear that there are differences in the coding between different radios (like a single height din gamma unit is different from a double din unit whiich is different from a eruo double din unit etc etc).

One last post here to add some vital info if anyone comes upon this post in the future and has questions about the proper soft coding for this radio to work properly in a USA MKIV Golf/Jetta/GTI/R32. I got some help to get things better sqaured away on the VAG-Com Technical Forum. Here is a link to that thread with soft coding info for the Delta 6 radio: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2629580
If you can't afford the big $$$ for a full blown OEM Nav, this is a great stealthy mod for the price of a used Delta 6 radio (generally around a couple hundred bucks plus shipping via European e-bay websites) from Europe.

The Bonus is that this radio does work better, has cooler features and yes, even sounds a bit better than the stock double DIN unit in most of our cars.

Re: Any one installed Euro OEM DELTA 6 CD player in the 32.....plug n play (RichB)

Hi Rich B,
Thanks for the update and congrats for the install and not running into any problems. I price I quoted was from fischermotorsports.de and I got an email a couple weeks ago about more interest in the units.
Like you stated earlier, maybe the price is for new, but I have seen the unit on other auctions around the same price.
So I guess no surprises on the install, just need the code, or do you have to go through the whole process of vag-gom....keep us posted on the unit.
Thanks, looks hot in the car.

The biggest PITA of the install was getting my stock moonsoon double din unit out. Had a freind (works in the car audio biz and has the keys) try for 20 minutes to get the thing to come out without sucess. I had to homebrew some custom keys that I could bend and futz with a bit in order to engage the tabs and get the @$#^#&^ stock radio out!
Other than that, it was plug in the sotck harness, enter security code, and play .... since you do not know the original soft coding for the radio, I would very much reccomend Vag-Com-ing it to make sure it is talking to the amps/speakers/changer etc in your car correctly.
Bunch of Delta 6 radios on german Ebay right now:

Backlit vent controls (was: Re: Any one installed Euro OEM DELTA 6 CD player in the 32.....)

Sort-of off-topic, but I noticed you have the backlit vents. Did you install the Euro R32 vents, or did your GTI come with these?
A friend gave me a set of these back-lit vents, but I haven't had time to install them yet. Is there any wire-splicing required, or are the connections present to hook these up? How do you get the old ones out and the new ones in? Couldn't find instructions anywhere, but maybe I wasn't looking in the right place.

Re: Backlit vent controls (BLUL8N)

I guess the thread is a bit more off topic since I drive a 2003 1.8T GTI, not an R32!

All the radio stuff applies though....whether GTI or R. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

The vents are lighted Jetta Dash Vents (Jetta's came with these before 2003). I bought them used here on the tex a year or so ago and finally got around to installing them this spring. My educated guess is that R's (which have non lighted Jetta dash vents) like GTI's Which have Golf dash vents which have no lights either) do not have the wiring in place for these, so it takes some work (its not hard, just takes some time) to get them installed.
Scroll down a bit in this thread on my local VW club's website for my experience with the dash vent install: http://www.fastdubs.org/www/mo...=7158
Here is one DIY on dash vents from Vortoex archives: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1960541
Enjoy!
