Re: Hey i need help with my 86 VW gti 1.8. (ATL_Av8r)

CIS and Turbo is not much different than Hammer and Testicles.
Some people think turboing a CIS car is fun, and some people make pup tents while looking at BME.

Yes i can do basic work on my car. I have allready trubo my 76 280z so yes i can.

Have fun with your trubo gti then. Check out the MK2 forums for more detailed help.

Re: Hey i need help with my 86 VW gti 1.8. (camo86 gti)

Just a suggestion- you may find it easier to just do a motor swap.
The 1.8 CIS motors are pretty crummy to begin with, and you won't be able to make that much power with out going with a stand-alone ECU setup. You might as well put in a 24v VR6 or a 20v 1.8T and make as much power as you would if you did all the work with your 8v, only it would be newer, and not modded to the end of it's capabilities. Just my opinion.

Re: Hey i need help with my 86 VW gti 1.8. (puebla)

and I thought I was a noob...
Anyways to help you out, trubo kits for mk2 gti's are very hard things to put together.
Don't forget youll need 4 flux capacitors (one for each cylinder) and 18 stickers (since the car is a 1.8)
I'll post you a diagram later to help you out further

Re: Hey i need help with my 86 VW gti 1.8. (camo86 gti)

I'm saying if I had to do it all over again, yeah, I'd do a VR6 swap, or a 1.8T swap. I used to have a MK3 2.0 that I put a turbo kit on. It ended up being a huge pain in the butt because of parts not fitting correctly, finding correct software, etc. etc... I ended up having just about as much HP as a 12v VR6... There are many well documented swaps on this site (Not in The Car Lounge, but on other subforums), that will give you a rough idea on what you'll encounter. Good luck!

Start looking for a cheap VR6 Corrado and you have a complete VR swap for your A2.

12v VR6
another relatively cheap and easy swap to consider would be a 2.0 Crossflow turbo
SEARCH (top right corner of every vwvortex page) "Crossflow Turbo" and begin reading
edit: click "archived" on the SEARCH page for better results

That would work too... The 24 valve VR6 motors make more power, but you can do minor stuff to the 12 valve Corrado (or Passat?) motor to make 200 HP pretty simply; and it would be cheaper and easier to find the older motors. Check out the technical forums, that I, and an above poster mentioned.

good advice but it'll probably be easier for him to find a B3/B4 passat VR6 to do a swap as opposed to finding a "cheap" corrado
and no...this is not a test

why not
1. sell GTI 1.8
2. buy john deere riding lawnmower
3. buy K04 turbo
4. ????
5. mow lawns and profit!!!

Then he can turbo the vr6!
