What's up guys. Just figured I would post up my experience.

So I was originally planning on not getting a tune for my 2001 Jetta, as it's my daily driver. Well, I saw a post in the classifieds from "CoreyJ" saying he had tuned ECU's and also flashes ECU's with his own tune for $100. I'm all about helping out the small guy, so after picking his brain a little, I felt comfortable giving his tune a shot! Especially for his impossible-to-beat price.

Overall, I am very satisfied.

My car has a 3" DP, straight 2.25 exhaust, intake, and Bailey DV.

Warm up just very similar to stock, no issues whatsoever. Under acceleration, the car spools pretty quick and usually spikes around 22ish if I were to guess. (My gauge only goes to 20 and the needle went past it) No limp mode, no overboost. After that it holds about 18 and by redline only drops to about 16. As soon as the turbo spools, the acceleration is VERY similar to other tuned 1.8T's I have been in (Unitronic Stage 2, Autospeed,) and in my opinion faster then APR. (I was never a fan of APR..) Considering I have a stock fuel system down to the FPR, I'm impressed. There is no boost surging either, no detonation. I can't say anything as far as long term yet but I'll be sure to update!

There is one SMALL gripe I have, and that is the idle is the slightest bit choppy. Although that could just be my car, and even if it isn't, for the price of the tune I am not arguing at all.

So thanks again Corey! If you're on a budget and don't want to spend much for a flash, shoot him a message.

You never know, any number of sensors can do that. As well as the fact my cars idle was a little choppy even with the factory ECU. Probably old o2 sensors.

No my idle was always a tad choppy compared to my friends cars. Tune just seemed to make it a little more noticeable.
Like I said im very happy so far, especially considering how much money I saved!

Everyone is a "tuner" these days... And by "tuner" I mean "someone who probably used someone elses files"

100 bucks. No thanks. I like the security of my "professional company" tune.
I've found a program to dump BIN or ROM files or whatever is on ECUs.

I should dump the file from a chipped car and sell it too!

:screwy:

All of you guys are ridiculous.

First of all most major tuning companies keep their files secure, if it was that easy to just copy their file and start selling it EVERYONE would be doing it and they wouldn't be in business..

Second of all, do you honestly believe that the large companies are the ONLY people that are knowledgeable with tuning software.. those few couple people? Out of the entire united states..? There are TONS of small guys that know what they're doing.. it's not like this is some black art that only 5 people know how to use..

I was worried at first too, but there are other people out there that are just trying to put their name out there.. APR, Unitronic, and all the others started off small as well at one point in time.

Look at Gonzo, everyone laughed at his tunes originally because he was new and all of you bandwagon guys instantly jumped on the "name brand" wagon. and now in my opinion, he has some of the best budget minded tunes out right now and rave reviews.

You guys can knock it all you want, but for a guy like me who would rather put my money in my other car, the fact that I got a brand new ECU with a flash on it for only $150 makes me happy and im plenty satisfied.

Some of you have to look outside the box.. you can't say something bad about something you have no experience with. That's like me walking around saying a certain food tastes like crap even though I never tried it.:screwy:

I would gladly refer a friend to Corey and one of my friends around here is looking at having his car done by him now as well.

Get a 4 bar FPR. And the choppiness is most likely a boost leak. At normal 5psi-8psi levels, you dont notice or feel it. Triple the amount of vaccumm being pulled and you see/feel a difference.

this is going to be gonzo all over again
My car's tuned with Gonzo and I guarantee on a base map Stage 2+ it pulls just as hard if not harder than any other base map flash. I already know it does APR.

There's a reason Unitronic tried to steal his tuning....

LOL@ unitronic trying to steal his tune.

They've been out far longer and produced tons more high HP cars then that guy ever has. I doubt they tried "stealing" a tune he made.

Why isn't gonzo a forum sponsor anymore? Hmm....
There are some people out there that know what they are doing. I still trust a company that has been around for 10+ years rather than 10 weeks on facebook or whatever. Dyno results and longevity means more to me. Let me know when a gonzo tune or some other Nefmoto file goes 100,000 miles with out issues.
