I have OEM Xenons w/ incandescent rear light with fog enabled. My byte 18 is set to 40 although the description says for halogen (40; ROW; halogen; DRLs=No; Tail lights=Incandescent; Rear Fog=Yes). Still works for me :D

If I remember correctly, the side marker bulbs are non-existent on ROW cars, so it has to be any of the ROW setting for byte 18 for the system to ignore the side marker bulb error. However, you have no fogs on your rear light, which is a NAR setting. So this is kind of counter-intuitive.

You may want to try setting your Instruments to ROW - that will enable parking light via turn light signal stalk, disable key-in chime, and reduce your seat belt warning chime. See if this would take out your bulb error.

They are the Hella's from BKS-Tuning, trying to take them apart was not easy (I gave up) so I assume they are LED. The Right backup is white, the left backup is White lens but comes on Red. (I'm wondering if I didn't get the w/fog lights by mistake, I didn't order them w/ fog). (BKS part number for my order was "VWGOL099-0001").

So if the backup lights are LED we have to install a resistor? I was trying to avoid making any wiring modifications.

Unfortunately this listing doesn't match my setup.

'13 R w/ stock Xenons, stock DRL's, stock US headlamp switch, LED tails w/o fogs, VCDS set to 21 but I get backup light errors.
??; NAR; Xenon; DRL's, Tail lights = LED; Rear Fog=No(??)

This is what it says on BKS' listing for the tail lights, I'm still trying to understand if it has rear fog or not....

My order from BKS, LED cherry red no fog. Just checked invoice since it's still on my counter and I came across this post just to read the very first post on diy. My invoice product # end in 003. You likely have rear fog.

You'll have to install a euro switch with trigger wire for rear fog. I'm assuming coding is the same for your R so you'll have to change byte 18 to "04"

Just installed my OEM's last night... Coded to 1F and it works great. I tried 55 first since my car has Xenons, but I was still getting some (different) bulb out errors. 1F seems to work right even though I think technically it's for halogens.

Does anyone know if there is a coding available to light all the rear lights when braking, rather than just the outside pair?

FWIW, I ordered from BKS and they arrived in under a week :thumbup:

There is not coding available.

Hello

I need your help.

I need to install OEM LED tails with Rear Fog on a 2013 Golf VI GTI with Halogen headlights and front fog lights.
How is the coding be done,so there will be no errors.
Do I need to run a wire for the front fog lights as well ?

cheers

Torsten

I have a 2013 Golf R with LED DRL, OEM Xenon headlights and OEM LED taillights. I also have a RLS mirror and an auto headlight (rear fog only) switch installed.

I have the coding for Central Electronics (09), Byte 18 set to 04.

I have not installed a trigger wire per the DIY yet but plan to. My left rear fog light is always on. I assume that after I install the trigger wire and swap wires 28 and 47 of the 52-pin connector (T52) that the rear fog will only be on when I turn it on with the headlight switch.

Can someone confirm if this will work or if I am wrong?

Any help would be appreciated.

Craig

Correct.

Once you set byte 18 to 04, it swaps out terminal 28 and 47 assignment - you can check right now before installing the trigger wire, by switching on the rear fog. When you turn on the rear fog, your front right DRL should light up (your DRL should only work on one side after setting byte 18 to 04 without installing trigger wire and swapping terminals). The same way that if you want your rear fog to turn off when you're running around town without having to look like a weirdo, you can turn off DRL for now.

Coding is available somewhere in this thread (do recommend reading the entire thing to better fully understand how this works. It's fun; you get to know your car more). You can also google "Byte 18 PDF" and you'll find a whole lot of coding combinations for VW.

As far as running a wire for front fog lights, I'm not sure what you mean by that. It should be wired already if you have a GTI.

Thanks Jeremy!

I recently bought LED taillights and was searching around for how to fix the bulb-out error on the dash. I know there are a lot of varieties for Byte 18. Mine was originally set to 00, then I tried 21, as many people have suggested. While that resolved the bulb-out, it change my DRL's. They would no longer work when the headlights were off. They would only come on with the low-beam's. I had to follow the procedure to reset back to "00" properly, then found this thread, and tried the "1F" setting. That did the trick for me, and all is working as it should be.

Have a VW GTI 2010 OEM Xenon Just installed LED Tails with rear fog lights, coded to 15 and swap cables 28 and 47, flawless...they just look amazing!!! :D, I just followed the instructions on this thread, very easy installation.

thanks:cool::eek::laugh::beer:

Has anyone else gotten super dark side markers and city/park lights when coded to 04 for the rtails?

Okay, I feel dumb for having to ask this, but after reading the first 10 pages of this thread, I'm not sure I have the correct answer since all the resolutions keep being debunked and new things are being found out and 40 more pages is a lot of reading. I have a 2012 and will be adding OEM LED's with rear fogs. As far as I know, I'm pretty sure I have the newer coding or whatever, since it's a 2012, and Bi-xenons headlights.

What coding do I need to change? Anything? I think I'm just going to say fu.ck it and get tails without fogs. I didn't even want rear fogs in the first place.
