Glad to see the rear A/C vents. Looking at the 2012s, it seemed very obvious that those vents were planned but just didn't make it into the vehicle.

We are seriously considering a B7 Passat, but the lack of rear vents + lack of rearview camera + lack of cool looking LED lights together made us wait until the 2013s were announced. Glad we waited. LED lights can always be added later!

Dealer parts film shows that 2013 vents can be added center console rear cap removed and center vent added removing drivers seat and running the 2pc vent call it done. I will do the mod as soon as parts are orderable in the system.

Rear view cam has been documented as being added on this forum so what are you waiting for?

LED is not on the list also price hike will likely be high dealer told me they are adding 700 more jobs on the assembly line to fulfill demand. Late 2012 already have cheaper smaller mirror and who knows what else they will skimp on to make a buck now that they have a demand and audience....

Best financing rates are always given on introduction 1st model year the proposition turns downhill from here until clearance at models production end.. This months rates are already higher than last month. My 729 score represented over 36month lease equated to $200 increase from april to may VW financial published rates..

Looking at it adding the larger early bigger CC mirrors to 2013 would have been more money as well as what ever else you loose in 2013 along with higher rates and lower residuals vs adding cam and vents. Unless there is a big change I don't see 2013 upper spec cars being a better decision and something to hold out for with exception of lower spec getting more std featured not sure which model spec your looking at?

I just bought a TDi SEL 2 weeks ago and writing this from my view point. There was one 2012 left with my color choice within 200miles in dealer search and I faced the decision myself to buy it or waiting for 2013.

 

Does the remote start still work the same way (i.e. Does it shut off the car when you open the door)? Thanks.

Not exactly. My Commander Overland required that you put the key in the ignition.

If the car turns off when you unlock the car and you turn it back on again someone could still get out with the key and drive off.

The car does not have to shut off to make it safe. It could require that you tap the start button or have your foot on the brake.

Shutting the car off is only A way of doing this. Not the ONLY way.

 

There is no ignition for your key to go into in remote start Passats. The other way would be to have something that stops you from shifting into gear without the key in the car. But again... if you can drive without the key, would that stop you from shifting into park?

So sorry but I don't trust VW enough (after past experiences) in coming up with some kind of electronic technology that controls when the transmission could be shifted if situation A, B or C is present. I don't know how other manufacturers do it with Keyless Start/Stop systems, but I rather VW just do it this way.
