So i recently purchased an RCD-510 and MDI kit so that i can use my iphone to listen to music in the car now. Eventually id love to add bluetooth to the car since it is illegal to use a phone while driving here in WA unless using bluetooth. I am curious which Factory bluetooth modules will work on our cars. If possible id love to have info displayed on the MFD for the phone and be able to use bluetooth audio. Is this possible with an R and RCD-510? TIA

Succinctly, no.

There is only one module that works correctly with the MFD (since we have red-dot MFDs), and that module doesn't support A2DP for audio streaming. If you don't care about streaming and just want it for calls, then one of the factory solutions will work for you.

You could also use the 30pin cable for MDI and attach to iPhone for music, but just add BT for phone.

None of the systems handle track display that I've seen.

The Kufatec FISCON can do calls and music AND semi-ghetto remote control, but no track names and it doesn't really play super-smooth with the factory systems (constant errors from it on CAN and occasional call routing issues for me).

Thats not entirely true Z, I have a RCD-510 with 9w2 and i have A2DP audio streaming and bluetooth with my iPhone too. I love using the Bluetooth streaming my Pandora radio and iTunes while driving and even with my Turn by Turn directions with my Maps on my iPhone. Its also nice to be able to use the phone button on my steering wheel to end and answer phone calls, if someone calls me while listing to my music i can push the phone button on my SW and answer the call and when im done i hit the phone button again to hang up. This is great while driving cuz i dont have to take my eyes off the road at all.

i highly recommend getting this combo if u want those options in ur car

OP...... Im willing to sell me set up if u want it, I have only had it for 4-6 months BUT i only use my car on the weekends and i have not even drove my car for 5 month after i bought the RCD so i have only used it a few times BUT i do love all the features. The only reason im willing to sell it is so i can buy a RNS instead. My RCD-510 is a AE model and its the latest model

PM if u or anybody interested

Braden,

Not sure where you have come to that conclusion but it's not accurate.

On the Highline+ vehicles with the full red MFD, the 9w3 will work.

The only 9W3 that works with the red MFD system is the "B" version [1Z0 035 729 B].

When the 9W3 is equipped with the RNS-510 navigation system, the 9w3 allows for the phone book to be displayed on the Nav unit for dialing from the touchscreen.

When the 9W3 is equipped with the RCD-510 touchscreen radio, the 9w3 does not display the phone book over the radio display as the North American units cannot do this.

Important to Note: The 9W7 unit does in fact work on cars with the red MFD to full functionality with the RNS-510 Nav Unit [may require firmware/software upgrade], but it will not display any information on the red MFD due to the DDP protocol being incompatible with the BAP. Many owners don't concern themselves with this as the full features of the 9W7 bluetooth works just fine via the RNS-510 touchscreen display and can be accessed. These features include changing tracks via radio, title and song info, A2DP, text 2 speech, and phone book access. The MFSW still retains functionality with the unit for answering and dropping calls as well as normal radio functions.

So it sounds like 9w2 will do phone calls but no bluetooth audio and 9w3 will do bluetooth audio but no phone calls and 9w7 will do it all but not show up on my MFD?

If i was to get a RCD that had the phone button on the unit would i be able to take full advantage of the 9w7 module with the exception that i could not see the phonebook stuff on the MFD but would have full control with the radio. Would the steering wheel buttons still work properly?
