A lot of you are talking about doing things in your MFD computer. I can't figure out how you're doing this unless there's some sort of hack code or it's an option my car doesn't have. Search found nothing.
thanks!

I'd tell you to read the owner's manual, but I'm in a helping mood today
Image
. Hit the menu button on the right side of the wheel, then use the arrows next to it to scroll through the choices. The full menu will only pop up when the car is stopped.

You have to press ECON and the UP ARROW button, the one that puts the air near the windscreen vents.
The left display and panel show the channel + subchannel. The large number is the main channel, with the little number top right being the sub channel.
The Left twisty bit changes the MAIN channel, the central twisty bit (fan speed) changes the sub channel. I dont think the right twisty bit does anything.
So far ive only worked out the following :
MAIN channel 19 has got engine RPM, engine SPEED (km/h). Ive only looked at it for a few minutes but i really wanna work it all out

I havnt tried it yet but http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

The MKV Jetta owner's manual indicates 3 different levels of MFI; Lowline,Midline, and Highline.
If the GTI comes with the same variety, then access to various options will be restricted by the MFI that you have.
If the GTI only offers one level of MFI, then you should have access to all of the options others have posted.

See, that's what I was wondering. I can get into the basic menu when stopped, but it only allows me to change a few things and set time and compass, etc. Everyone's talking about doing these crazy things with their MFD's and I feel outta the loop. Either there's a way to open hidden things or someone has a cooler MFD than I.

Can you give examples of "these crazy things"?

Cruise Control is set using the Cruise Control Stalk.
We have set the 3-blink Lane Change Turn Signal, disable ATA Confirm (the horn/chirp when locking or unlocking the car), and set a High Speed Warning, which is a speed the driver does not want to exceed (I have my High Speed warning set to 77 mph as an example).
There are also numerous settings (highline) for lighting options and such.
If equipped, your car can have some options enabled or disabled using the VAG-COM.

Well I can get into the lighting menus, but I still see nothing for the speed limiter, etc...

You should see something listed for "Speed Warning" along with "Winter Tires" (still don't know what that's for). Are you scrolling all the way down in the convenience menu?

Correct, the term is "speed warning", not speed limiter.
You set that Warning Speed at a level you do not want to exceed, and when you reach that limit, your MFI will alert you.
The Winter Tire setting is another Speed Warning that you set, usually 65mph, that alerts you to slow down, Winter Tires you know.
(Winter Setting is in increments, and subtracts the setting from your previously selected "Speed Warning" setting)

Thanks for the clarification on the Winter Tires setting. I was confused when looking at this on a friends GTI and it was default set at 54mph which seemed odd since it's increments of 5 that you can change it.

I'll go over my Owner's Manual again on the Winter Tire setting... I think it is just a reminder setting to let you know that you are still driving on winter tires, in winter conditions.
Straight from the horses mouth...

You, as the user, set the speed warning, based on your knowledge of the Tires.

Prolly already figured but the Speed Warning is not in the menu area, its in the MPG screen's, I think its one past the real time MPG display.
