We did this in 'suspension' with the mkiv's, but I think everyone here is capable and mature enough to leave it here to start as it'll get more replies, and more replies = more samples, and better info.
Every recent VW spring has a color code on it. After extensive research, we were able to determine spring rates for quite a few of the availble color codes. If we get enough info and spend some time on it, we can create a similar chart for the MKV chassis.
(for anyone curious, here is part of the work on the old chart: http://www.peterpyce.com/Shine...s.jpg ) VWVortex user 'pyce' was instrumental in organizing the original MKIV effort.
Let's start this off with the basics:
- Model
- Trim (package 0,1,2, etc...)
- Manual or DSG
- Stock wheel size
- Build Date
- Front spring color code
- Rear spring color code
So here's my info:
- GTI
- Package 1
- Manual
- 17"
- 01/06
- Red / Red / White / White
- Blue / Yellow / Yellow / Yellow
Once we get enough info and can figure out the rates -- then it becomes easier to know what can swap in and out to stay 'oem' and still perhaps change the ride characteristics. If you don't have all of the info, get it -- and then post. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif Once we get it rolling I can move it to 'Suspension.'
