Please post your SPL(DB) and what equipment you used

I am curious as to what spl levels everyone is getting especially in MK3 Jettas
and what your using to hit it.
In my own experience Jettas are one of the hardest cars to hit a high # in without major amounts of cone area and power. Golfs on the other hand can get real loud with very little thanks to the hatchback.

140 DB with a PPI A600 Running two 10W6's at 3 Ohms. Which they were getting about 225W each. A PPI A204.2 Bridged to a set of MB Quart MB 3016.CX.

130db on a new Termpro meter (around 3-6db lower than the older meters but more accurate)
using 1 boston 10.5lf in a 1.8cft sealed box
getting around 200wrms of a hertz amp
and it was in a Seat Cordoba

Re: (Hyperion)

Hyperion, What kind of car?
I really curious to see some #'s on MK3 Jetta's , I have tried many different setups in mine and this morning tried just about every box in my store and they all played just about as loud as the others except 1.
I tried 2 Viper 12" sealed and 2 Kicker 12L5 sealed. Both about the same, then I tried a ported box with 2 Viper 10" and wow what a difference.
Image

From around 135 with the sealed boxes to 140 with the ported and smaller drivers. It all comes down to the natural cancellation problems with the shape of the MK3 Jetta's.
Anybody else?

Actually FOr SPL it really comes down to Cabin Resonance, Port area, a One note wonder box. and a whole lot of power.

Re: (Non_Affiliated)

Yeah I realize that but I'm looking for more real world #'s.
You know more like typical in the trunk or hatch systems no walls or crazy can't drive the car stuff.
I think I might be happy with the 2 Viper 10.2 in the ported box I have in now.
It doesn't seem to suffer from the cancellation that the sealed boxes I tried had

Well The 140 I hit I guess is about real world as it gets for a pair of 10's considering I built the box for SPLQ, i.e. Get loud, but still sound good, not a one note wonder yet still had good overall sound quality.

Gotta love hatchbacks, What subs and amp for the 140.

I was running two JL 10W6's in a 1.15 CU. Ft.box Ported to around 35 HZ. Running a PPI A600. It was in my Old '80 Accord. I have yet to do the install into my Corrado. I am debating ripping out the rear seats, and making a Custome amp rack. Which will allow for a box that won't take up all my hatch area. But I am just having issues bringing my self to tear into the car. That And I have been fighting to figure out where the EA, and X-over will go.

Throw in a transmission line box like my friend and hit 150 all day with one 12 and 100 watts. Oh it's only at one note though

Umm, that's impossible, not to call you a lier but you NEED more power to hit 150 db. It is absolutly impossibly to hit that sortof SPL with 100 watts. Unless the box was 50 cubic feet with a 30 foot long port and the mic was inside the box.

Re: (Hyperion)

Have you noticed it's all been hatchbacks so far, no Jettas.
From my own experience i can tell you Jettas suck for SPL, Ive been trying to get the best of both worlds for a long time and think I finally got the right setup with these Viper 10"s in the ported box.

Re: (George@DUBWARS)

I hope you don't end up like I did. I spent a lot of money and time on a custom fiberglass box for 1 S15L7 Kicker Solobaric in the spare tire well firing staright up. It would knock stuff off the garage walls as long as the trunk was open, shut the trunk and it disappeared (back to the cancellation thing). I hope yours goes well George, keep me updated.
Oh yeah looks kick azz so far!!

Re: (rknail)

I am new to installs (& audio)... SO I dunno what a lot actually is compared to what I spent..
I paid 3k for the complete install of everything (which was a HUGE deal to me).. Worked out a side deal with the installer... and I got sponsored by Ample Audio.. So you know how that goes..
Oh.. and I dont have back seats....

Re: (George@DUBWARS)

back in 96-98 when I was competing, I had a 92 Eagle Talon with 2 12" Orion XTR subs and a Soundstream Refference 200 Running 1ohm mono. I was running 2 of thoes amps and their total power rating was 12.5 Watts-per-channel. So I had a total or 50 watts rms. This car played 145db all day long. I was also running An AudioControl EQL and 4XS which helped out as well. This car took 6th in my class at the '98 USAC finals.
Im looking foward to getting back into car audio next year with my A2 GTI. I have all winter to work on the car to be ready in the spring

What size of box did you use? Ported/Sealed? If ported, to what? what frequency did you play? You would have to have a pretty damn big box to hit 145 with 50rms...

I was using a sealed 1 Cubic ft per side box. This was with a 60-65hz tone. At 1ohm mono, the soundstream Refference 200 amp puts out around 300 watts of RMS power. Man I miss that stereo. The new one is in the works
