Preperaing my first amp install, MK3 specific question.

First and foremost, How thick is the board of the back of the rear seats? I would like to mount my amp to this, but I'm not sure what size hardware to get. I'm assuming it's something like 3/4"? Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Second, I read that it is bad to run the amp's power cable next to the RCA cables. With that said would it also be bad to run the speaker wire next to the power cable?
Lastly for views, here's the setup:

you should always run your audio lines and power lines on opposite sides of the car, and if they need to be crossed, then cross them intersection style. if you run them together, you risk bringing engine/alternator interference into your system. youll here a whirring through the speakers that increases with speed as you rev the car, thats the alternator
Im not sure how thick the back of the rear seats are, i was going to do that, but got lazy and just put it on the back of the box

That's what I thought, but does that mean I would run the power down the middle under the center console and such? Most of the installs i read up on looked like the fed the power down the drivers side. How much room needs to seperate power and audio cables? 6 inches? 12 inches? 24?

dude, pull the kick panel sills up from the edge by the doors...both sides come off easily, use those.

Currently my amp is just sat in the trunk, coz I'm lazy. But in my last MK3 I paid an installer to do it properly and he mounted the amp on the back of the seat.
As for the cabling, I've run my power and remote cables down the left, RCAs down the right and my speaker cable up the middle. I know you don't have to seperate the speaker cable and RCAs, but it was tidier and helped with getting equal length runs of speaker cable. Looks like some pretty reasonable kit, hope it all goes well.

I know it's not hard. Like I said I'm lazy. No-one ever looks in my trunk anyway.

my buddy did a bad install job (interferance all over) and now when you have the volume just passed 1/3 you can hear the injectors firing...
its like sitting in a engine

pull it all out and do it over man, you're gonna ruin all your stuff from the interferance, especially the sub.

what this guy said. It will take you approximately a 1/3 the time. You will have to remove the back seat cushion as well so you can remove the panel sill for the back. Also, the easiest place to bring in the power wire is through the steering rack boot. cut a small hole (smaller than the diameter of the wire) and spool it through. Make sure you have some twist ties or zip ties so you can properly organize things and keep it snug up under the dash.

everything but the steering boot.
do NOT cut your steering boot, that sound liek its jsut asking for trouble.o
their are like 2 or 3 plugs i nthe firewall that do nothing. i popped one out, cut a crss hair in it, and fed my wire through. worked great.

My amp is under my rear seat.
The metal brace behind the seats is a PITA to drill thru. I would not suggest it, I broke like 4 drill bits doing it.

it's easy to screw into the back of the rear seat... my amp is like that.
only thing is now with the amp back there, my wedge sub box doesn't fit flush against the seat back because that damn amp is sticking out about 2 inches... at least its secure though

Run the power wire down the drivers side, because that is where the mbattert is, and you want the shortest distance possible. Make sure to have a fuse within 18" of the battery.
Mount the amp on the seat is no problem, pick up some self tapping scres and your all set.
Run the front and rear (sub too while your at it if you think youll put on in later) tot he rear, going down the passenger side.
Run speaker cable from the amps outputs, now there are 2 ways to do this:
1. the way I would: run the speaker wire back to the deck and tap in right behind the deck...all the speaker wire is right there for you.
2. run wire to each speaker/ to each door from the amp...this may be the best way, but it is a much harder job, and what your running for power shouldnt be a problem with stock wiring.
Also make sure to wire the REM wire to the back of the radio (blue wire, maybe blue with white stripe)
Find a GOOD ground, sand down the paint, geta self tapper again, and a star washer to make sure you have a real tight grip...Most problems come down to the proper ground.
Any more questions, PM me.
