Re: (BimmerBalla14)

(off the cuff)
The knock sensor is kinda like a "microphone" that works on being connected to the block. It its hanging off in space - it will never hear anything and thus never tell the EFI t dial back the ignition.
Of for that matter - simply cut the wires? ( I have no idea if the EFI looks for the resistance of the sensor)

Now...
If you do remove it - you had better have a very good ear to right foot reaction time to stop the pinging.
Or dial back the ignition timing.
Why you would want to dial back the timing (i.e. power loss) is beyond me.
So that begs the question - why do you WANT to remove the knock sensor? Thats like saying I want to do a mod to give me LESS horespower and reduce my engine longevity.....

why would you want to remove the knock sensor?????? If anything TT makes a spacer for it, I don't really know too much about it but I know a few people who have one.

NEVERMIND - see posts below

I think the spacer is used on engine conversions where it wont mount in the stock place on the new block or something interferes with the original location...
It certainaly retains the stock FUNCTION however...

i was taking some resistance readings on my knock sensor on the car, according to the bentley i'm sposed to get an infinite amount of ohms resistance, it doesn't say between which pins so i'm assuming either three, so between 1+2 its like 15ohms and 2+3 is infinite and 1+3 is infinite

Re: removing knock sensor (Low_Dub)

1) I can't believe I'm NOT THE ONLY SAINT JOHNER Here
2)DON'T remove the KS, I make the aluminum spacers to "deafen" the signal and I'll sell you one
3)15ohms?......time to go buy a new knock sensor(or IM me and I'll locate a used one for you for about $10)
4)DON'T remove or cut the KS wires(I'm 90% sure the ECU needs to "see" some feedback at all times from the KS or it's "limp mode" 4 U, and gasoline in Saint John is only as high as 91Octane, so you'll prolly detonate to hell on a hot day gettin' on the gas without a KS
5)If this is you Mike, I'm gonna kick you in the butt

Re: (Low_Dub)

When is MVOC...mid June or July?....or did I already miss it?.........either way, I'm on the hunt for a new job so I don't even know IF I'll still be in Saint john in a few weeks.
Anyway, if you need that knock sensor I might have one left and it's yours for $10 (used) if you need it, if not you could try Alpine Motors and if he has one he'd probably want $25 for it USED, I think new they are about $70?????
Oh, my friend (Mike) is looking for a header and cam for his coupe(1.8l, 8v), if you know anyone with anything let me know.
If you need to get in touch with me, ask the guy's at "Avenue Electronics" on Rothesay Ave., tell them you are looking for steve(drives pissedoff looking green jetta)
