A few things it could be:
1. Shift Linkage
2. shift cable end
3. transmission shot
4. Flywheel fell off (Had that happen)
5. throwout bearing
6. slave cylinder (Had that happen)

 

Yea I had a few of those in mind. I havent pulled it apart in the garage yet, hopefully I'll get to that tonight. I'm thinking (hoping) it's the shift linkage. It feels really loose, esp side to side.

Check where the linkage connects to the transmission....you could have a loose bolt.

cotter pin on the selector end of the linkage. i would bet it. i have actually had that happen ~ 10 times, in 3 of the 4 corrado's i have owned.
if you take the boot off, and look down, you will see this....

that is where it has always come off on mine. it is a pain in the butt, but also an easy fix.

thanks man, i'll take a look at it this evening.

 

found the problem sunday. i decided to pop the hood to see if i could find anything. it ended up being a PLASTIC shift linkage at the end of the cable on top of the tranny. does anyone know if some one offers a metal version?

damm i just found what i was looking for on gruven parts. 86 bucks is a lil steep compared to the one i got from the dealership for $26!!! it's still only plastic.
