so i came across a mk2 gti 16v on CL for 750

but of course the problem with it is

it has a spun bearing and somehow scratched the crankshaft

so do you think itd be a good investment to buy it and save a vw
and how much you think itd cost me to get it running with me doing
the work myself of course

whats the condition of everything else? Thats a lot more important than an engine problem.

Recaro interior is clean and everthing else is nice and the exterior just needs new paint.

How much is a new crankshaft?

Probably more cost effective to find another engine, and turn the old engine into a project.
$750 isn't bad, if the rest of the car is in decent shape.

Find a complete used motor in good condition and swap it out. It is just a few bolts and plugs versus taking the whole block apart.
