I dont have a manual but ive got Uni stage 2 with pop and crackles and its all good. Initially I thought my gas mileage was worse because of it but then realized I was just hammering down all the time.

 

The automatics won’t have the same issue, it is the manual transmission only. It delays the timing of the motor when the throttle is let off and my understanding is that the DSG clutches in so you can’t feel the timing slip but it still occurs. I’m assuming this is how Uni does it as well but I can’t confirm.

Just flashed my car to Unitronic Stage 2, all my problems have been solved. No more compressor surge, no more face hitting the steering wheel when I let off the throttle from the pops and bangs. I wish I would have done this a month ago.

Good to hear. Would you say the pops and bangs is essentially the same?

 

With a manual transmission, is the overrun on the Unitronic flash always on? With a DSG, it's only on when in sport mode.

 

It seems to always be on, but more noticeable in sport mode.

 

It is only on in Sport mode. With the APR you have to actually click the sport mode button on the infotainment screen (not just shuffle through with the button on the console), which is why I didn’t realize the issue for a while with APR. I just thought it was always enabled but only worked on downshifts. Turns out it isn’t able to be turned off when “free revving” which is basically what you do for a split second on a rev match downshift.

I don’t think this is the case with the uni but I can confirm tomorrow.

Thanks. That's helpful. I'm considering going with the Unitronic Stage 2. Have the Cobb AP now with the MAP tune but never use the Cobb handheld for anything and have no desire to do a protune in the future.

 

They have their tunes on sale now for 100 off if you are on the fence.

I’ve not messed with the Cobbs before so I can’t really speak to how it compares there.

Which downpipe did you go with for stage 2. Currently have stage 1+ flashed and enjoying the power. Currently looking for a downpipe since the upgrade to stage 2 is only 100 bucks.

 

I went with an APR downpipe and I’ve been very happy with it.
