Who has cut their shifter down after installing a SS kit?

I am installing a Short shift kit in my jetta and was wondering if cutting the shifter down is a must to get optimum results? Has anyone done this and if so, how? How much did you cut it down? Thanks

just chop like an inch or two iff and re-thread it

Mine was cut on my GL so it would sit under the bolsters of my recaros that i put in, looks kinda ghetto but i liked it.

I cut mine down to where i can rest my palm on the seat and shift at the same time
